Since its debut in 2016 as the "Seeing the Future – Microbiome Research Trends Forum," we have focused on academic exchange for ten years, steadily building an international reputation and witnessing the growth of microbiome research in Taiwan. In 2026, to show the world the depth of Taiwan's research and industry potential in microbiomes, the Asia Microbiome Trends Forum will be upgraded to the "Microbiome Carnival." This is Taiwan's first themed exhibition on "Microbes and Health," combining four highlights: International Summit Forum × Popular Science Experiences × Industry Networking × Innovation Competition, creating the most important annual event in Asia's microbiome field.
The Microbiome Carnival will take place on January 17–18, 2026 (Saturday and Sunday) at the 7th floor of Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 2. It is expected to attract over 1,000 professionals and tens of thousands of visitors and students. This is not only a major event for scientists, but also a knowledge party for everyone!
The conference will be chaired by Dr. Ming-Shian Wu, Superintendent of National Taiwan University, College of Medicine, and will feature two leading international speakers: Professor Rob Knight, co-founder of the Earth Microbiome Project and the American Gut Project, and Professor Peer Bork, an authority in microbiome data analysis. They will share the latest global research trends and developments. The event will have 12 main sessions with 50 top speakers, covering topics from microbiome data and AI analysis, infant development, human and marine microbiomes, academia-industry cooperation, to regulatory trends for microbiome products — all in one place.
Science will no longer be only the language of the laboratory! The Carnival will have interactive science experience zones for all ages, exploring microbes from daily life, edible probiotics, to the "invisible world," making learning fun for both young and old. There will also be a "Microbiome Innovation Competition" focusing on creative applications of microbes. Everyone is welcome to join, show their ideas and skills, and finalists will have the chance to present on stage and connect deeply with experts from academia and industry. Fun science challenges will also be available to inspire the next generation's passion and imagination for biotechnology.
With ten years of dedication and innovation, the "Microbiome Carnival" combines academic depth with public interaction, allowing every participant to experience the harmony and co-existence between microbes, humans, and the environment.
